Research Interests

Siteman Cancer Center (Aft, PI) 12/08-12/09
Significance of Genes Associated with Disseminated Breast Cancer Cells

NIH R21 CA111530-01 (Aft, PI) 06/21/05-05/31/07
Prognostic Marker Analysis of Disseminated Cancer Cells
The major goals of this project are to determine whether the chemotherapy resistance cells detectable in the bone marrow of women with locally advanced breast cancer express markers characteristic of stem cells.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation (Aft, PI) 01/01/06-01/01/07
Development and validation of a gene signature predictive of chemotherapy resistant disseminated breast cancer cells.

1R21 CA102869-01 (Mach, PI) Aft, Investigator 08/15/03-08/14/06
Dopamine D3 Receptor Imaging Agents for PET and SPECT
The main goal of this project is to develop PET and SPECT radiotracers, selective for the D3 receptor, based on lead compounds.

1 RO1 CA 102777-01 (Jeffe, PI) Aft, Co-Investigator 09/01/03-08/31/06
Quality of Life Over Time: DCIS vs Early Breast Cancer
The specific aims of this study are to: characterize the quality of life (QOL) over time of women diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

R01 CA100760-01A1 (Schootman, PI) Aft, Investigator 08/12/04-07/31/07
Geographic Variation of Breast Cancer Survival
The major goals of this study are to examine small-area geographic clustering of breast cancer survival among women 66 years of age and older.

R01 CA112159 (Schootman, M) Aft, Co-Investigator 10/01/05-06/30/10
Neighborhood Effects on Quality of Life in Breast Cancer
The goal of this project is to: 1) determine the extent of geographic clustering of the change in Qol over time among women with and those without breast cancer at the level of the census tract; 2) determine the extent to which the change in Qol over time can be explained by neighborhood disadvantage among women with breast cancer and among women without breast cancer; and 3) identify potential pathways by which neighborhood disadvantage affects changes in Qol over time among women with breast cancer.
